Official Web Site of Portside on the Pamlico River |
|
Portside is located on the Pamlico River near historic Washington, North Carolina off Highway 17 on Whichard's Beach Road. Portside was developed in 1972 and the majority of the home sites were sold in 1974. This waterfront community provides a great family environment. After a day of soaking up the sun, boating, jet skiing or fishing on the Pamlico River, you can find eclectic specialty shops and restaurants that offer authentic Southern cuisine just a short distance away in Chocowinity, NC, Washington, NC or Greenville, NC. Portside is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and the vibrant heritage of the first town in the nation to be named in honor of President George Washington. As early as 1585, the first English explorers visited the area that would become Washington. However, it wasn't until the 1690's that the first settlements appeared. This region went by a number of names until 1712, when the county was named Beaufort after Henry Sumerset Duke of Beaufort. The historic waterfront district features buildings dating from 1780.
Portside has a posted speed limit of 15 M.P.H. Please adhere to it as we have more children in our neighborhood. The Portside boat ramp and picnic shelter are available for use by current members of the Portside Homeowners Association. To reserve the picnic shelter, contact the President of the Portside Homeowners Association at least 60 days in advance. Below are pictures of the Portside Picnic Shelter and Boat Ramp.
